Curriculum
Children of preschool age will mainly be learning through play-based activities. Routine, communication, early literacy, math skills, the world around us and social skills are key areas of learning within the setting.
Expressive arts
and design
Children are artists, so imagination and creativity is actively encouraged. They are supported to express themselves artistically through role play, drawing, painting and crafting.
Literacy
Linking very closely with the communication and Language section below. Children will be listening to stories daily and discussing their thoughts about what they see in books within the nursery library. Children will be encouraged to recognise their own name and to mark make.
Physical, Social &
Emotional Development
Children will be given the space to move freely. They will be running, jumping, balancing and playing in a safe environment. They will also be holding and interacting various objects and tools - while also learning to share, turn take and express their feelings.
Communication and Language
Communication is key and we offer a language rich environment where children will share plenty of opportunities to sing songs and rhymes, listen to stories, play games and interact with staff - all of which will help develop their speaking and listening skills. We also offer weekly phonics sessions to support this area of development.
Mathematics
Children will be given the opportunity to explore number, shapes and patterns in their play. They will be actively encouraged to count items they play with and to represent number using their fingers and to explore spatial reasoning.
Outdoor Play
Outside play is essential. Our children will play outdoors as often as possible. Children need fresh air and the ability to explore and investigate.
we offer plenty of forest school opportunities to ensure our children get to really experience the outdoors and learn to manage risk.
